Liberating Narratives is an independent publication by Bram Hubbell. It began as a blog known as Paperless History in 2016. In January 2019, I renamed the site Liberating Narratives. The design of the site pays homage to Paulo Freire’s Pedagogy of the Oppressed. You can read more about the name change on this post. I relaunched the site as a subscription newsletter in September 2022. Liberating Narratives is my offering to the many world history teachers struggling to teach in a more inclusive and transformative manner. I write about how we can challenge Eurocentric interpretations of and decolonize world history pedagogy in the classroom. I taught world history at Friends Seminary in New York City from 2001 to 2022. It was an incredible place to teach world history. About forty years ago, Jean Johnson introduced world history to Friends Seminary. I was fortunate to work at Friends Seminary with a number of educators dedicated to world history. I was also able to take advantage of the wealth of outreach centers and museums in the city that regularly offered programs for teachers. I was involved with the curriculum design and test development of Advanced Placement (AP) World History from 2008 to 2013.
